ADMISSION PROCEDURES

Who is eligible to attend?

Any student who lives in the attendance boundaries of Coral Gables Elementary, Carver Elementary, and Sunset Elementary, and who will be five on or before September 1st, 2009, is eligible to apply for Kindergarten.

 What will I need to submit with the application?

The application consists of the following: 

  • Original Birth Certificate
  • Parent Picture ID
  • Updated Immunizations Forms
  • Two Documents (listed under parent’s name) showing proof of address

Original FPL Bill, Proof of Purchase, Warranty Deed, Homestead Exemption, or Properly Executed Lease Agreement

No phone, water or cable bills will be accepted.

 How will students be selected?

Students will go through a computer-generated random selection (lottery) process. This method of assignment gives your child priority placement in the following order:

  1. Siblings with proximity to the school
  2. Siblings with no proximity to the school
  3. Student with proximity and no siblings
  4. Student with no siblings and no proximity

Should a student not be placed at the first choice school, he/she will be placed on a waiting list. When an opening occurs at the first choice school, parents will be notified and offered the assignment at the time.

 When do I apply for admission to the school?

For residents of an applicable Controlled Choice boundary, there is an application that all parents must complete.  Applications can be completed at any Controlled Choice school within the designated home boundary.  Registration for the 2009-2010 school year is in April 2009.  The deadline is at the end of April 2009.  The random selection will take place in May 2009.  Forms received after the deadline will be processed in the second random selection in June 2009.

 When will I know if my child is accepted to the program?

Notifications are mailed to parents after each random selection.  Registrations received after the second random selection (June) will be assigned at the time of application.
