The students in the IS program receive two and a half hours of foreign language instruction in either French, German or Spanish. This is in addition to Florida's regular elementary school curriculum. Admission Requirements Applications for the 2009-2010 school year will be accepted between October 1st, 2008 to January 15th, 2009. When selecting students for the International Studies Magnet Program at Sunset Elementary, the following criteria will be used:1-Children must be six on or before September 1st, 2009 in order to be eligible to enter first grade. 2-Recommendation of teacher 3-Record (report card) of student conduct and academic grades 4-Readiness test for first graders 5-Foreign language test for second through fifth graders 6-Standardized Test Scores (Optional)
Application Directions1- When submitting an application to the International Studies Magnet Program at Sunset Elementary school, it is imperative that first complete the Official School of Choice and Parental Options Magnet Schools application. The application form is available online at http://choice.dadeschools.net. Failure to complete any area of the application may result in the application not being processed. You must submit the form online, then continue with the Sunset International Studies Magnet Program application procedures. 2-Read and Complete the Sunset Application Packet carefully. 2. 3-Bring or Mail the Completed Application Packet to the school. The application packet consists of:
4-Private, parochial or out-of-county applicants must provide a Florida Power and Light bill as proof of address. Please complete this checklist to ensure you have all the necessary documents.
